The up-cycling starter kit provides everything you need to up-cycle your Makes Scents Candle. 

In the starter kit: 

• Makes Scents double wick scented candle, 530g (of your choice from our Main Collection scents)
• Wildflower seeds in a brown paper envelope.
• A coco dot, which expands in warm water to fill your candle glass with sustainable coconut husk based soil. Your coco dot is in a mesh bag so that your plants can be transplanted in your garden once they're all grown up.
• Plant label with Wildflowers written on it
• Pink luxury gift box

• Keep wicks trimmed with each burn to 5mm.
• Burn for two hours on the initial burn.
• Your candle is ready to up-cycle when there is 1cm of wax remaining.

Why do Makes Scents Candles use peat free compost?

One of the main benefits of peat-free compost is that it's more sustainable than products that include peat. Peat is found naturally in key habitats for plants and wildlife and we don't want to disturb that, when there are great alternatives.

Can I store the compost pellet in my starter kit?

We use Coco & Coir Coco dots which last a long time without decomposing while your candle is being used or if it's a colder time of year, you can wait until warmer weather to up-cycle without a problem.

What's special about the compost in this starter kit?

The compost is derived from coconut husks and is sustainable and naturally anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. It's also in a little bag that expands when wet and keeps your little seedlings roots contained, making it easier to plant it out in the garden without disturbing the roots.
